Discussion boards such as Reddit are a treasure house of insightful information on topics ranging from cats, rocket science, and virtually everything else in between. No wonder inquisitive minds get addicted to forums such as Reddit. This addiction (Like any other form of cyber addiction) comes at a price, though. Watching Reddit’s bright-white page can be very tiring for the eyes of people reading (and commenting) voraciously on Reddit.
Reddit just did a world of good to its users’ eyes by introducing a dark-screen more or night mode, which essentially means the site’s background colour can be turned to black.
Twitter introduced a night mode for its desktop site back in 2017, while YouTube started rolling out a dark theme to its mobile apps on iOS and Android in March. It’s a good option to have if you find browsing in a white theme harder, especially at night. In a blog post on Thursday, Reddit said:

“The Design team worked hard on creating a smaller colour system, using one already in place for our native mobile apps as a basis. This also allowed us to ensure that the experience was consistent over all our platforms. It also improves the accuracy of our colours since relying on a key that automatically changes with Night Mode removes the risk of overlooking how a component should look in Night Mode.”
Reddit explains that this feature already exists in its mobile apps and the old desktop webpage (via the Reddit Enhancement Suite browser extension). The company’s first site redesign in a decade began rolling out last month, with a native Night Mode listed as a “what’s next” feature for the days ahead.
How do I enable native night mode?
While Reddit’s redesign is not live in all countries, the good news is, it’s now live in this region. Once you login to Reddit, you can simply click on your username drop-down and turn the ‘night mode’ button on.
